His huge success, the iconic song “Escape (The Piña Colada Song),” has overshadowed the rest of his work. With a characteristic humor and cheekiness, Holmes tells different stories focused on love, seen from different views and perspectives. Songs like “Partners in Crime” show his brilliance, resembling Bob Dylan (the greatest storyteller of all time) with a characteristic humor that makes him stand out. The song “Partners in Crime” is lyrical genius portraying taboos and unconventional toxic relationships. Songs like “Answering Machine” use comedic sounds and lyrics as a resource that makes

The rollout for this project has been crazy good. Capitol Records really trusts Adelá and they definitely should. This is one of my favorite albums of the year. I understand why it got criticized for being too “predictable” but I think it has a very clear identity and I do think it offers something new, especially through the production, which is really great. Adelá really knows how to get our attention. She is definitely a star who is going to be on every stage in no time, and this record is just another example of that. I also understand the criticism of the slower tracks, but I actually th

It’s a fun record! Modern country often gets criticized for being too predictable, similar, and unwilling to take risks, with most of it aiming for radio play. But I don’t necessarily agree. Sure, it’s not a genre where you expect to be amazed by the production or innovation of every record but it can still be really fun and relatable. Lauren perfects the radio-ready song, as pretty much every track could become a favorite. I mean that as a compliment as I can imagine every listener having a different pick. Mine is the opening track which shares the album’s title “In A Perfect World” . “Marl

It’s hard for me to review this because I really like Armani. I think he is greatly underrated. The record is fun, and Armani’s energy translates perfectly across 11 well-paced fun tracks. I just wish the horror ambience had been exploited even more, as it starts really well and then fades in importance. I especially appreciate when Armani talks about himself and his experience with fame, for example in “FLASHMOB. I” and “FLASHMOB. II,” as well as in “POST MODERN.” I really like Armani’s connection to the project. He has great lyrics and catchy but interesting hooks. The album maybe lacks a

The album is not for me, but I can see its value. Although the songs are relevant, well-written, and important within their context, I find “I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier Mama” and “Gimme Some Truth” musically boring and too long, and I think they kill the pace of the album a bit. That being said, they are very impactful. Lennon wrote about what he cared about on this record, showing that he cared about the world in the two tracks mentioned previously and,of course, in “Imagine.” He also shows his love and fascination with Yoko, especially in “Oh My Love,” a really good love song and his anger a
WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?Billie Eilish4.5 out of 5 stars ·
Billie and Finneas’ chemistry shows perfectly here. The whole aesthetic, accompanied by Billie’s somber, soft but strong vocals and Finneas’ dark ambience, works perfectly. I love the strong and saturated 808s and basses in “Xanny,” which is a standout from the record in my opinion as it shifts and it’s compelling and interesting, just like the album itself. I like how every song follows the aesthetic of the album while being different and having its own identity. I don’t think the album has a skippable song, as even in the slowest ones, Billie’s emotional vocals make them worth listening to
