Well, this is the one I’ve been waiting for. I can’t say it necessarily lived up to my expectations since everybody hyped it up so much and this is only my first time listening to it, but I do think it was really good. One thing that I really enjoyed is during the whole album, Kanye is being vulnerable with you and telling you how he doesn’t like fame and how it’s corrupting him but then the very next song is him covering that up (or at least that was my interpretation). Like after the song “Lights” where he’s saying he’s turning on the lights and showing you what’s there, the first line of the next song is “I should the lights out, ‘cause it’s bright out“. I think it’s cool that to me on “Monster” it seems like the features are in there saying that Kanye is trying to fit back into the rapper world. That being said there wasn’t too much of this album musically that I was just crazy about, I think it was all really really good but nothing really struck me at least the first time around as some thing I just left. I would listen to this album again especially considering how much everybody loved it but I can’t say I was crazy about it the first time. I didn’t dislike it really much at all but I just wasn’t like, “Wow I love this album,” like I have felt about some others. That being said, most homes for me are way better on the second listen so it remains to be seen. Edit: After writing this I kept coming back to Power and I’ve like Monster for a while. Also I can say there are definitely parts of the album I dislike like the poetry near the end seems so out of place. But I still would like to return to this album to see if my opinions change or double down. Favorite song? Power/Monster

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the fifth studio album by American hip hop recording artist Kanye West, released November 22, 2010, on Roc-A-Fella Records. Recording sessions for the album took place primarily at Avex Recording Studio in Honolulu, Hawaii during 2009 to 2010. Production was handled by West and several other record producers, including Jeff Bhasker, RZA, No I.D., and Mike Dean, among others. Following a hiatus from his music career, West worked on the album through a communal development that involved him and various other musicians and producers contributing collectively to its music. Noted by music writers for its varied elements, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy incorporates musical components from West's previous works, including soul, electro, and symphonies, and features themes regarding excess and celebrity.
