Overall, the album seems very well crafted. Ariana’s voice is one of the strongest and most impactful of her generation, so any project she embarks on is interesting to some degree. Petal doesn’t disappoint, especially for Ari’s fans, blending her typical style into new forms. I love how she includes so many background vocals of herself to accompany each song, giving the album a better sense of sound and depth. That’s very much in her style, and it works incredibly well because her voice is as impressive as ever. The album never feels bland. It maintains a constant rhythm while still giving each song its own identity. It might not be her project with the most hits—excluding “Petal” and “Hate That I Made You Love Me” (both really great songs)- but it still doesn’t fail to impress. It’s not her best project, but it’s still really great even by Ariana’s high standards. I also really like that unlike many albums, this one finishes on a happier, more upbeat note before ending with “Nowhere, Nobody,” which closes the whole project perfectly and makes it feel like a better overall listen. From start to finish, it remains consistently good, with great writing and singing from Ariana and with a strong overall production. I especially liked “Oh Well,” where they went for a fast-paced beat and contrasted it with Ariana’s slower vocals. That contrast works really well. I’m giving it 4 stars. Even though it’s very solid, it isn’t necessarily innovative enough for me to give it a 4.5 or a 5. It’s also important to take into account that this is a record where most of the songs grow on you after multiple listens. Some tracks might not immediately stand out, but they do become more enjoyable and interesting after you spend more time with the album.

omggg this song is SO beautiful but the lyrics hit way harder than the actual sound the whole production is so slow, smooth and almost peaceful, and her vocals just float through it. but when you actually listen to the lyrics??? GIRL. every stanza feels like it carries SO much weight. it's basically taking all these painful memories and emotions and turning them into something beautiful through music. and that's what gets me you can just vibe to this song because of how pretty it sounds, but actually paying attention to what she's saying makes it hit completely different such a soft song with such heavy feelings underneath.

not as experimental/melancholy as i thought when i listened to "hate that i made you love me", it still was very refreshing and an interesting new sound coming from ari. favs are: hate that i made you love me, oh well, freak -intro is insanely addicting-, and bad thing (bunny hop). i didn't expect to like charli's new album a bit more than this, the novelty of petal made it more enjoyable but i don't mind since I'm having fun.

About
Petal (stylized in all lowercase) is the eighth studio album by American singer and songwriter Ariana Grande. It was released on July 31, 2026, through the label Republic Records, and her own imprint, Babydoll Music. Grande and Ilya Salmanzadeh co-wrote and executive-produced the album. Petal explores themes of romance, self-worth, and celebrity. Titled after and based on the metaphor "petal in the pavement", the album revolves around finding hope and resilience from emotional and mental turmoil. Its songs reflect on failed romances with a negative view of the ex-partners, discuss falling in love again in the aftermath of painful breakups, and critique the negative sides of fame such as intense, obsessive scrutiny. Petal is a pop and R&B album characterized by atmospheric production, synthesizers, drum machines, and an electronic soundscape.

Two singles have been released from Petal. "Hate That I Made You Love Me" was released on May 29 as the lead single and reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. The title track, "Petal", which Grande debuted during the Eternal Sunshine Tour on July 28, accompanied the album on July 31. Some reviews complimented the subdued music and vocals while others felt that the same undermined the album.
