This probably hits hard on a road trip or in a car stereo, as it really pumps up the listener with fast-paced tracks followed by Miley’s rock, unapologetic persona.“Prisoner” is such a banger, one of if not my favorite Miley’s and Dua Lipa’s songs. “Angels Like You” is also great, as it showcases this album’s strengths and value perfectly, mixing Miley’s pop and rock star personas. They blend together very well. I can’t think of another “pop singer” that could pull off such a rock inspired pop record, which is very un-Miley’s style. “Plastic Hearts” is so catchy too,”Midnight Sky” is great too. I do wish there were more slower tracks like “High” to really balance the strong style of the other tracks. The production is really good while carrying its style without being predictable, which is a very strong point compared to other pop albums. Songs like “Hate Me” showcase Miley’s ability to show a lot of emotion through raw vocals and raw instrumentals that blend together really well.Even the tracks that could be considered the “weaker ones,” like “Bad Karma,” have an interesting changing sound throughout the track that keeps the listener engaged, although I do find that specific track repetitive (maybe it’s the melody). “Never Be Me” kinda reminds me of The Weeknd’s atmospheric production; it works great. I do think though that the album loses some of its momentum at some points. Since it has such a defined (but not repetitive) style, some tracks can feel less impactful or hit less hard than others. I do wonder if the ending could have been slightly different, not because the covers are bad—in fact, “Heart of Glass” is brilliant and, in my opinion, even better than the original—and “Zombie” is really great too, as Miley delivers very raw and powerful emotional performance’s. I’m just not sure if the covers give the album the kind of closure I expected.”Edge of Midnight” is great too, as it is a creative blend of two already great songs. Definitely worth listening to. It’s quite fun, and the Miley personality we all love is all over it.
