The masked confessional: CHROMAKOPIA filters Tyler's anxieties about fame, fatherhood and inherited paranoia through his mother's recorded voice and some of his knottiest production. "Noid" jitters; "Like Him" aches. Less immediate than IGOR, more lived-in than anything before it — an artist mid-career, still refusing to repeat himself.

About
CHROMAKOPIA is the eighth studio album by American rapper and producer Tyler, The Creator. Released on October 28, 2024 through Columbia Records, CHROMAKOPIA was released three years after his previous album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. The album contains features from artists such as Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, Childish Gambino, GloRilla, Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red, LaToiya Williams, ScHoolboy Q, Santigold, Lola Young, and Doechii, and the production is handled by himself. The album breaks his long-lived two-year project release window on odd years, which stretches back to his debut project Bastard in 2009. Chromakopia is narrated by Tyler’s mother, Bonita Smith. Its concept is speculated to be based on the story of Chroma the Great, a powerful conductor whose orchestra creates the colors of the world, from the 1961 children’s novel The Phantom Tollbooth. The protagonist of Chromakopia, St. Chroma, is introduced in the opening track of the same name.

Trucks and shipping containers promoting Chromakopia were spotted in various cities across the U.S., including Tyler, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbus, Philadelphia, Roswell, Phoenix , Hawthorne (Tyler's hometown), and Los Angeles. One day before its release, Tyler held an album listening party at the Intuit Dome. On October 16, 2024, Tyler posted a teaser for Chromakopia’s opening track, “St. Chroma”, on his social media accounts. He revealed the album's name, release date, and cover art the following day. The album’s lead single, “Noid” was released on October 21. A teaser for its eleventh track, “Thought I Was Dead”, was shared on October 26. Three more songs were teased in a promotional video for the album’s limited edition vinyl release.
