Cherry Bomb received generally positive reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 69, based on 23 reviews, which indicates "generally favorable reviews". The album debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 51,000 copies in its first week in the United States.
