seventy minutes and a good stretch of it is people saying goodbye. dave's verse on good health is the one bit of writing on here somebody clearly sweated over, the rest of the record isn't in that weight class. the esposito narration had every reason to land corny and it doesn't. songs get walked to an ending instead of dropped, and for something assembled out of sessions over the better part of a decade i'll take it. then the guest list. lifetime achievement dinner, everybody gets a plaque, everybody gets four bars.

most of these don't end, they just stop. praying to the sky runs out mid-thought and the next one is already moving, and somewhere around the fourth track you stop reading that as sloppy. kryptik's beats are dusty in a way nobody would sign off on now, and peep is recording in a bedroom in long island with the levels wherever they landed. veins is the one i keep coming back to. nine years sitting there before it turned up on streaming and they had the sense not to touch it.

eight names on the writing credit and all eight signed off on the same chorus. i went in ready to be annoyed and quit being annoyed somewhere around the second time it comes back. under three minutes and it doesn't hang around waiting to be admired, which is most of why it works. the country argument is somebody else's.
