5.0Perfect score
I truly think this album is a masterpiece. Jack’s instrumentation takes elements you know and smashes them together in a way you’ve never heard while holding onto this funk and fun throughout the whole album. It’s message (at least what I think it’s message is) of going against the music industry and popular opinion at large and diverting expectations rolls perfectly into the sound of this album. How it was received seems to be about how it expected to be: with some confusion, some love, and some hate. But it doesn’t get too brooding or overwhelmingly thinky. You don’t have to “get” the album to enjoy it. It’s not as straightforward as some of Jack’s other work nor is it as pretentious or for lack of a better term artsy fartsy as some other experimental albums can be. It’s truly a work of beautiful, enjoyable, fun art in my book. Give it a try if you don’t try any other album I review.
