It’s hard to capture how much I love this album but suffice it to say that it’s a lot. Starting with the music, this album is rocking so hard. Song after song just rocks. Even if you don’t care about the story this album easily holds its own with any rock album. With the high and rocking highs and the emotional lows MCR plays it all greatly. Then of course the lyrics, again even if you ignore the story, Gerard Way still shows his talent immensely in the beautiful and aching lyrics, not to mention his perfectly theatrical delivery. The emotion in the lyrics is only surpassed by Way’s one-of-kind voice and inflection. Finally the story, say what you want about it’s clarity. In my opinion it doesn’t need to be terribly clear. It can fit so many options beautifully and tell so many stories. But, what I view the story as, is just as entertaining if not more so than a movie. I could go on but if you have any time on your hands, throw this beauty on and enjoy.

The Black Parade commits to its bit harder than anyone asked it to. A dying cancer patient, a marching band and a funeral staged like a stadium show should add up to a costume, and instead it's the tightest songwriting My Chemical Romance ever did. "Welcome to the Black Parade" opens on a single piano note and ends as five minutes of Queen, and it earns every bar of the climb. "Cancer" is two and a half minutes and the saddest thing they wrote. "Mama" gets Liza Minnelli into a drunken cabaret waltz. The back half sags around "Teenagers", which was always a single wearing a concept album's clothes. The 20th-anniversary edition comes out on October 23, the same date as the original, with six extra tracks.

About

The Black Parade is the third studio album by American band My Chemical Romance. Released on October 23, 2006 through Reprise Records, it was produced by Rob Cavallo, known for having produced multiple albums for Goo Goo Dolls and Green Day. It is a rock opera centering on a dying character with cancer known as "The Patient". The album tells the story of his apparent death, experiences in the afterlife, and subsequent reflection on his life. Four singles were released from the album: "Welcome to the Black Parade", "Famous Last Words", "I Don't Love You", and "Teenagers". The Black Parade has received generally favorable reviews, and the band achieved its first Number 1 single in the UK with "Welcome to the Black Parade". The album debuted at number two on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart and is also certified as platinum by the RIAA, as well as a Platinum certification in the UK and a Gold certificacion in Argentina by the CAPIF and in Chile by the IFPI Chile. The Black Parade was given the Platinum Europe Award by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry for 1 million sales in Europe.

The limited edition boxed set also earned My Chemical Romance a Grammy Award nomination. In the video game Guitar Hero II (Xbox 360 version), the song "Dead!" was added to the game's track list prior to the earlier PS2 version, and the three songs "Teenagers," "Famous Last Words" and "This Is How I Disappear" are available for download. The Black Parade has sold 1,610,000 copies in the US as of October 2010.
