A soundtrack with an unusually strong spine: Kendrick curates Johannesburg and Compton into one continuum, handing SZA, Jorja Smith and Babes Wodumo real estate most blockbuster tie-ins would never allow. "All the Stars" and "King's Dead" did the chart work, but the deep cuts hold up. The rare film album with a point of view.
