Age of Illusions cover

sinead’s review of the albumAge of Illusions

Common Saints · 2026

Five songs, gone in twenty-one minutes. Sounds like a man who's spent years tidying up other people's records and knows when to stop. The piano figure on Kaos does the heavy lifting and he stays out of its way. Sax on Night Light should be a disaster and isn't. There's no menace in any of it, so don't come looking for any. He sings better than half the people who hire him.

Singing caught me more than anything else on it. He leaves the bottom of the mix alone too, nothing stacked down there fighting the piano. Been a while since a record this quiet stayed on

The ending is what bothers me. He stays out of the way for five songs and then walks off the same way, so the calm never turns into a choice he made.
