A sequel to Confessions on a Dance Floor, made with the same producer, Stuart Price, sounds like the safest idea Madonna could have had. It works because she lets it be a DJ set again: 64 minutes, every track fading into the next. Arca, Mirwais and Cirkut all have hands in it, and Price folds them into one long night instead of a guest list. "Bring Your Love" with Sabrina Carpenter was the Coachella moment and the VMA trophy, but the record is built to be heard start to finish, not as singles. The best thing she has put out since 2005, which is exactly what it set out to be.
