"Coolhand" is about a modern habit: posting a cooler version of yourself than the real one, and feeling worse for it. Nicolas Jaar keeps the beat dark and low, and Sasha Spielberg sings over it quietly, almost to herself. That suits a song about anxiety better than a big chorus would. It was the lead single from Facepaint, her first EP as Buzzy Lee, in 2018. Four years later her father picked it as the one record he would keep on a desert island, ahead of Sinatra and the Beatles. That is a parent's choice, not a critic's, but the song works without the famous surname.
