Marcus Vinicius’s review of the album& The Charm

Avalon Emerson · 2023

There's a flow of Studies and Explorations of the 90s genres going on right now -- the best part about it is that it not only replicates them, but rather takes its palettes and applies them to the artist's own vision in a really rewarding way. Avalon Emerson's debut is another one of those, taking a stroll through several styles from both the more electronic-chillout and alternative side of the decade -- spacey downtempo, jittery 2step, lush orchestral indie and dance-y alt rock -- and filters them through a misty-eyed and candid indie electronic filter, learning what makes these genres great and improving her compositions seamlessly through their incorporation in her vision and voice.
