Marcus Vinicius’s review of the albumTruth or Consequences

Yumi Zouma · 2020

Yumi Zouma follows the same tested and approved formula they had going for two albums for their third - breezy and soft indie pop with a strong melodic sense, slightly dreamy on its production with nods to the 80s sophisti-pop style of production - the first half is a bit too samey, but the album get stellar at points, e.g.,"Cool for a Second" and while as a whole doesn't present anything exactly new, it continues their path as a completely enjoyable and lovely band - I keep on thinking they have the potential to do something great without losing this soft sound (something akin to Alvvays) and while this is not it yet, it's another great addition to their catalog - the second half has some glimpses of brilliance with more captivating hooks and pristine melodies, so it's worth it if you love breezy, careless and slightly bittersweet indie pop.
