This was one of those albums that grabs your attention but then runs and hides, or vice versa. The first listen felt almost like standing in front of a rotating wall moving at 45 mph with the world’s greatest art on it, it was beautiful yet will take much more time to take in. Maybe this feeling was all due to it having been a minute since I’ve sat down and really LISTENED to an album. “House of Cards” was when I felt like I caught up and could begin digesting what I was hearing. “House of Cards” made me feel like I wanted to run away and forget to be remembered. “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” had some moving strings that felt like they lovingly shoved your body or like you got taken away by a wave in the ocean. So much of the album was like a rock band ran into a computer and your hearing their music get digitized piece by piece. I think each song is incredibly focused and a nearly perfect length individually and as an entire album. It was sweet and sad to see it leave. I had to leave after hearing it but genuinely if I had another hour would just sit and listen again and again until I felt at home in it. It was almost like going to a party where you don’t know any one but they greet you like you know them. The activities are strange and the colors alien, yet it’s also inviting, the only thing holding you back is your own mind. You have fun but are unfamiliar still, you come back to gain the comfort they show. Lots of thoughts about this album and yet very little at the same time. What an experience.
