Jackson Futrell on 2000: In Search of the Endless Sky

First listen vibe: I feel like this album had a lot of really good ideas and some of those ideas brought some moments. I definitely enjoyed. At the same time I feel like there is some parts of this album that we’re just… Off. One thing in particular was, I just didn’t enjoy the male singers‘s voice. I think it just sounded whiny and a little too hot punky for the genre that they were in and was kind of grading when compared to the beauty of the woman’s voice. With that I felt like the woman’s voice, although beautiful wasn’t anything crazier or unique, but it was still good and I really really enjoyed it. I didn’t feel like there was too much going on in the album that was like mind blowing, but I feel like there was a lot of really good spots are really smooth spots, but along with those smooth spots there is some problems I had with it majority though my problems were with some of the mixing. I remember one song where they had like sleigh bells, but the sleigh bells were way too loud and it felt like the rest of the music was in the background. Also, sometimes the voice mixing was way over the top of the rest of the instruments and it just wasn’t working for me. There was one song I think it was Jerome‘s battle that the beginning was super strong and then as soon as we come out of the beginning, it just totally lost all steam for me and. and was just not it. Overall, I would definitely look for this band again and look for anything else they release, but definitely not one of my favorite albums of the year but pretty good overall.
