THE GENTLEMEN'S CLUBYG3.5 out of 5 stars ·
not what i expected to click with but yg's gentlemen's club got me anyway. the pusha t and jid features hold their own but it's the quieter stretches, where he actually sits in a feeling instead of posturing, that had me coming back. on the low doing that ying yang twins whisper flow shouldn't work as well as it does, that one lives in my chest a little. pacing sags in the back half, a couple tracks reach for a hook that isn't there, but when it's not reaching it's genuinely honest. 7, surprised me.
God Must Really Love MeTori Kelly1.0 out of 5 stars ·
nobody's arguing the voice. she opens too much with the actual delivery-room audio and her runs on that one live in my chest, no question. but the record around her is so smooth and careful it just slides right off me. every song lands on the same grateful-and-content note and the arrangements are too clean to hold a voice like that. i wanted her turned loose over something with a little dirt on it, not this.
Kodak The BlessingKodak Black1.0 out of 5 stars ·
i keep pulling for kodak when he leans melodic, there's an actual voice buried under all that. but 26 tracks is a test and i failed it. the front stretch has a couple of those warm woozy beats i showed up for, then somewhere around 'running it up' it flattens into one long drip and never lifts again. the autotune gets smeared on so thick i lose him in it completely, which is the one thing that always loses me. the beats are carrying this by themselves.
