What counts as a hidden gem?
An album our raters score highly but few people have heard: high rating, low popularity. We require a strong average and enough ratings, then favour albums whose popularity sits below the median for rated records.
How is the hidden-gems ranking calculated?
We take albums rated well by enough Riffiter users, drop the ones that are already popular, and rank what's left by a weighted score that balances the rating against how many people rated it, so a single five-star vote can't top the list.
How is this different from a best-albums list?
Best-of lists reward albums everyone already knows. This one does the opposite: it surfaces records that score well with the small crowd who found them but haven't reached a wide audience yet.
