that transition period between not-morning and morning, between 4:30 and 6:15, watching the day rise while you force yourself to sleep after a sleepless nights of ruminations caused by the lack sight for your next day. it's the best remedy for anxiety caused by idleness, the deadpan singing, the way it feels like he's sighing every word, that amazing subtle drumming that progresses slowly, almost still on the background of many songs while the album slowly unfolds inside your ears, it even has that thought that makes your eyes wider and your mind run faster until you eventually shrug it off in the form of 'cherry chapstick', a wild thought in an idle mind. whenever I felt overwhelmed by idleness or feel like succumbing to an existential crisis in this year of 2020 I return to this album, it's like a sort of utopia. not filled with wonders and joy, but... a calm utopia, where you simply feel good in your skin, you look from the window and sees nothing and feel good about, it's a warm blanket, it's a sort of... indifferent warmth, it's the opposite of overwhelm, it takes the weight from your back. a world of comfort where you want to travel to it and live forever there. where there's no noise, no static, just a silent house in a silent street and the warm feeling of comfort and a mind free of concerns about your own existence. it's a freeing album and somewhat dangerous as it gives you a taste of an impossible world. utopian nonetheless. yet I'm falling down into this well over and over again, without caring whether how much i'm trapped within it, because why not? i finished typing this at 5:46 while night falls on hoboken slowly progressed its way inside my mind, now let me listen to it again...
