About
Junk Culture is the fifth album by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, released in 1984. The three most successful singles from the album were "Locomotion", which reached #5 in the UK, "Talking Loud and Clear" (#11), and "Tesla Girls" (#21). Junk Culture has a different sound because of a change in instrumentation due to the band's acquisition of the Fairlight CMI digital sampling/sequencing workstation. The title track is an instrumental with heavy dub overtones and tape collages, "All Wrapped Up" is a calypso pop song. "Talking Loud and Clear" features a soprano saxophone melody. The cover artwork was designed by Peter Saville.
