seven minutes of drum machine and kettledrums before anyone opens their mouth, and it still doesn't drag. closest this band's sounded to the early 80s stuff in a long while, just run through more synth and a heavier low end. not really a comeback so much as them remembering how to be sad properly again.

seven minute intro is about four too many, the self-titled did the sad machine thing in 85 without the runway. 3, being nice. idk.

Sad properly describes a mix, not a piece of writing; what changed here is the low end sitting louder. I will grant it holds one mood across the whole record, though the tempo never moves once, so holding it costs them nothing.
