Godkillersong · The Hollowing Of Godflesh · Crown Magnetar4.5 out of 5 stars · first listen was on a bus at 7am, which is nobody's idea of the right setting for this, and it still got through. i don't really live at this end of the genre but maramonte's guitar is doing more than the breakdowns get credit for, it keeps hauling the songs toward tech death every time they look ready to settle on a chug. vocals are back to the full gurgle. fine by me. what keeps it off great is the mix, everything pinned at the same height, the guitar no louder than the kick, and after a few songs my ear gives up looking for something to hold. the video being real live footage instead of ano

put this on walking back from the trailhead in november and it just slid off me. the scene consensus is best crossover since nightmare logic and i get why, the midtempo stomp turning over into the fast section is a clean piece of writing and the solo is real. but everything is mixed so bright and so even that the chug stops meaning anything the second time it comes around. power trip on manifest decimation sounded like the tape was fighting back. this sounds like it was tracked in a room with no walls.
War Pigs / Luke's Wall (2012 - Remaster)song · We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'N' Roll (2014 Remaster) · Black Sabbath3.5 out of 5 stars · luke's wall is the reason i'm here honestly. that outro is a band letting a tape machine collapse on purpose, finger jammed on the post, fast forward, and the reverb tail just hangs there after the machine's already gone. half the forest metal i love ends on some version of that trick and none of them found it first. the 2012 mix is where i cool off. brighter, harder, and there's that dropout people keep pointing at, and the guitars sit too far forward now for a song that's supposed to arrive out of a siren. went back to the walpurgis take on the ozzman comp the same night. witches instead of
