Riffiter’s review of the songVideo Games

Lana Del Rey · Born to Die

Video Games is slow on purpose. A harp, strings that sound lifted from an old film, and a voice sitting so low it nearly sinks into the mix. Nothing in it rushes toward the chorus, and the chorus barely rises when it gets there. That restraint is the whole appeal. The lyric is small and domestic, him playing his games, her watching, and she sings it like a confession anyway. It only reached No. 91 on the Hot 100 in 2012, which is hard to believe now. The video she cut herself from webcam clips and old footage did more for it than radio ever did. The last minute drags a little, but the drag suits the song.
