It’s a fun record! Modern country often gets criticized for being too predictable, similar, and unwilling to take risks, with most of it aiming for radio play. But I don’t necessarily agree. Sure, it’s not a genre where you expect to be amazed by the production or innovation of every record but it can still be really fun and relatable. Lauren perfects the radio-ready song, as pretty much every track could become a favorite. I mean that as a compliment as I can imagine every listener having a different pick. Mine is the opening track which shares the album’s title “In A Perfect World” . “Marlboro Man” has grown on me too, as it’s quite catchy. Another standout could be “Slippery Slope,” as John Morgan is a great addition to the record and combines really well with Lauren. The album also has some really nice writing, both creative and smart. I especially like part of the chorus of the album’s final song “Pretty Please”; “Red hair, green eyes, she could pass for Second comin’ of Jolene.” I really hope she gets her Ella Langley moment. Btw, I was surprised, but at the same time it made a lot of sense to see that she worked with producers Joey Moi (Morgan Wallen’s producer) and Will Bundy (one of Ella Langley’s producers). I’m giving it a 3.5 because it serves its purpose really well and manages to stay fun throughout.
