nobody's arguing the voice. she opens too much with the actual delivery-room audio and her runs on that one live in my chest, no question. but the record around her is so smooth and careful it just slides right off me. every song lands on the same grateful-and-content note and the arrangements are too clean to hold a voice like that. i wanted her turned loose over something with a little dirt on it, not this.

    voice is there, room around it's asleep. needed one track with some dirt under it, agreed.

    Gratitude is a hard thing to build songs around, it resolves before you start. She's got the conviction and none of the tension, so every track lands in the same place and the delivery-room tape is the only minute that costs her anything.
