Your assistant already knows your taste

If you have talked to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini about music with memory switched on, it holds a record of your taste that no music site has: the albums you said you loved, the ones you went off, and why. One prompt gets that back as a list. Paste the list into Riffiter and it becomes a rated library on your own profile, ticked row by row so nothing you never said gets in.

The prompt

Look back through everything you remember about me and find the music.

List only albums I actually named — records I said I loved, liked, went off, or played to death. Do not add albums you think I would enjoy, and do not round the list out with famous ones. If you remember very little, a short list is the correct answer.

Reply with nothing but CSV, starting with this header:

artist,album,rating,evidence

rating: 1 to 10, where 10 is a favourite and 1 is something I said I disliked. Judge it from how I talked about it, not from how the album is generally regarded.
evidence: a few words of what I actually said about it.

If you don't remember me talking about music at all, say that instead of writing any rows.

Four steps

  1. Check that memory is on

    In ChatGPT it's Settings → Personalization → Memory; Claude and Gemini have their own switch in settings. If it has been off the whole time, there is nothing to fetch and the rest of this page won't help.

  2. Paste the prompt

    Send it in a normal chat with the assistant you actually use. It reads back what it remembers about your music and answers with a plain CSV: the artist, the album, a score, and the thing you said that earned it.

  3. Bring the answer here

    Copy the whole reply into Settings → Connections. We read it, match each album to our catalog, and show you the list before anything is saved.

  4. Untick what you never said

    This is the step that matters. An assistant recalling a conversation can be confidently wrong, so every row shows the quote behind it and nothing is written until you agree with it.

The one place your opinions were already written down

Every other way of bringing your music history somewhere new moves a file that already exists. Last.fm hands over plays, which say what was on rather than what you thought of it. RateYourMusic hands over real verdicts, but only if you were already the kind of person who sat down and rated a thousand albums.

Talking to an assistant is neither. It is closer to telling a friend what you have been listening to, which is why people say things there they never bothered to type into a rating box: that one record got them through a bad year, that a beloved album has never actually landed for them. That is the good stuff, and until now it evaporated the moment the chat scrolled away.

Bringing it here gives it somewhere to live. Your scores sit on album pages next to everyone else's, they feed charts nobody else can build, and a profile that starts filled in is one you keep adding to.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work with Claude and Gemini too?
Yes. The prompt asks for a plain CSV and doesn't depend on anything specific to one assistant, so it works in ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini alike. Use whichever one you have actually been talking to, because that is where the memories are.
Does Riffiter connect to my ChatGPT account?
No. There is no connection and no login. You run the prompt yourself and paste the answer, which means we never see your conversations, only the list you chose to hand over.
What if it makes albums up?
It sometimes will. The prompt asks for a quote of what you actually said about each record, we drop every row that arrives without one, and the rest are shown to you as checkboxes before anything is saved. An invented album rarely survives being read back next to the sentence that was supposed to justify it.
Where do the ratings come from?
The assistant estimates them from how you talked about a record, so treat them as a first draft of your own opinion rather than a measurement. They land on your profile as normal ratings and you can change any of them in one click.
What if my assistant remembers nothing about music?
Then it will say so, and that is a fair answer. Memory has to have been on while you were talking, and plenty of people have only ever used an assistant for work.
