An album of pop songs written for other voices, sung by the writer: This Is Acting is Sia's rejected-demos concept made flesh, and "Cheap Thrills" — passed over by Rihanna — became her biggest hit anyway. The meta-concept intrigues more than it moves; the voice, as ever, does heavy lifting the material doesn't always deserve.
