restlessbloom on Perpetual Damnation

Much faster and more technical than what I usually sit with, so I came to this Cape Town band sideways. Pieterse's growl is like a low ceiling of hail, not a lot of variation in it, and the higher shrieks from the second vocalist are what stop it flattening out over a whole record. It does fall into a groove and park there. I didn't mind. What got me is As the Dead Swarm near the end, which opens slow and heavy for long enough that I thought I'd wandered back onto my own shelf, then takes off again.
