First standalone thing since You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To and it turns up with a rapper on it, which usually means somebody sanded the guitars down to make room. Nobody did. The riff writing is straight-ahead by my standards, mostly on the beat, no funny time signatures, but there is an actual riff underneath instead of a fretboard exercise, which is the argument I keep making to people. Curry doesn't get a polite pocket cleared for him either, he steps into the ugly part and works there. Bass is buried, as usual with this band, and I want it back. That fill going into the last breakdown though! Took me three spins to stop hearing the Biohazard-and-Onyx thing everyone keeps naming and just hear the song. This rules.

Agreed on the riff, but the drums are what sell it for me, that gallop in the back half lands the same way the end of Dyers Eve does even if there's no line between the two. Curry is the one fighting the mix here, not the guitars.
