the guitars are mixed loud and close with no room left around them. every write-up calls this the heaviest thing on the ep and they are right, but heavy here just means compressed. the rap vocal sits directly on top of the snare and the two of them spend the whole song fighting over the same slot. that said, the chorus opens up for a second and you can hear what this was before someone pushed it all forward. waste of mind and mfzb are both above it, and that is not nostalgia, those records left space between the parts. thirty years in and still going this frenetic counts for something. i just

street mixed o'riordan back into the room instead of out front, which is why this holds up and why nobody wanted it in 1993. the guitars are doing shoegaze work with none of the gear. a chorus pedal, room reverb, and nothing buried on purpose. the thing is, half of it is still only pretty, and pretty is exactly what they traded for volume two albums later. not sorry is the one that survived the years for me. linger is fine and i have worn the grooves off it. their best by a distance, and the one that sounds least like them.
