the drums drag behind the beat on purpose the entire time and it makes everything feel warm and half-asleep. nobody's matched this feel since.

that drag is Questlove intentionally playing behind the beat chasing Dilla's feel, they were calling it the drunk pocket at the time. Spanish Joint is where it clicks for me every single listen.
