Poppy, also known as That Poppy, is an American singer, songwriter, ambient music composer and YouTube personality. She moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to pursue a musical career, where she signed with Island Records and released her debut EP, Bubblebath (2016). In late 2016, she became the face of Sanrio's "Hello Sanrio" collection. Early life Moriah Rose Pereira was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1, 1995. She recalls wanting to be a Rockette as a child and grew up dancing, which she did for 11 years. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee at age 13; stating in a 2013 interview: "I moved here because my dad switched his job and we kind of wanted to start over, so I was like, 'Nashville!' And my parents went with it – which was kind of weird – so yeah, we ended up in Nashville." Shortly after, and at the young age of 15, Poppy left home for Los Angeles in pursuit of a career in entertainment.
