Mai Yamane (山根麻以, written 山根麻衣 before 2001) is a Japanese singer, best known for her works with composer 菅野よう子 (Yôko Kanno) on the soundtracks for the Japanese animated series Cowboy Bebop. She also worked with Kanno on the 2nd Escaflowne soundtrack, Macross soundtrack and the Darker than Black soundtrack (2007). Her career started at the very beginning of the 1980's when she participated in a young singer's contest in Japan. Six months later, she finished her first album. Up till now she's had 11 albums. The last time she performed abroad was on 20 Jun 2007 in Seoul, as a member of Yoko Kanno team. This name tag, 山根麻以, goes for her singing works ''AFTER'' 2001. , for her works ''BEFORE'' 2001. change name to 山根麻衣.
