Faithless were formed in London in 1995 by producer Rollo Armstrong, DJ and keyboardist Sister Bliss, and vocalist and rapper Maxi Jazz. They began as an unusual proposition in dance music – a group that insisted on intelligent lyrics, live performances, and a sound that blended house, trip-hop, trance, and dub into something entirely their own. Debut single “Salva Mea” became a classic upon its 1996 re-release, and “Insomnia” from debut album Reverence grew into one of the most iconic dance tracks of all time, selling over 1.8 million copies in the UK alone. Second album Sunday 8PM (1998) gave the world “God Is a DJ,” and with Outrospective (2001) and No Roots (2004) – the latter a UK number one – Faithless were among the biggest names in electronic music. After a farewell tour in 2011 and a reunion in 2015, their seventh album All Blessed arrived in 2020. On 23 December 2022, Maxi Jazz died peacefully in his sleep, aged 65. The band described him as “a brilliant lyricist, a magnificent stage presence, and a beautiful person.” In September 2025, Rollo and Sister Bliss released Champion Sound – featuring Maxi Jazz’s final recorded vocals alongside contributions from Dido, Bebe Rex…
