About

Dagny Norvoll Sandvik from Tromsø grew up in a home steeped in music – her mother Marit Sandvik is a vocalist and her father Øystein Norvoll is a jazz musician. She first took the stage at age six during one of her parents’ concerts, but it was a songwriting assignment at school that truly sparked her passion. As a teenager she also tried her hand at modelling – winning Norway’s “Face of the Year” competition in 2007 – but that career was short-lived. In 2010, she moved to Liverpool and later London to pursue music, performing acoustic sets at small clubs and pop-up events while working part time in a clothes shop, wine bar, and an elderly care home. In 2015, after considering giving up music altogether and enrolling in a university degree in digital media design, she returned to songwriting – and it proved to be the right call. Her single “Backbeat” was picked up by Zane Lowe on Apple Music and landed on Spotify’s New Music playlist, racking up 20 million plays in a short time.

The breakthrough opened doors for a string of singles that cemented her position: “Wearing Nothing,” “Drink About” with Seeb, and “Somebody” – the latter winning Song of the Year at P3 Gull in 2020. Her debut album Strangers / Lovers (2020) was described by Aftenposten as some of the best modern pop music of that year, not just in Norway but globally. As a songwriter, she has also left a lasting mark – she co-wrote the foundation for Katy Perry’s “Never Really Over,” which surpassed one billion streams worldwide. Her second album ELLE arrived in 2024 and was nominated for the Spellemannprisen. With over one billion total streams and seven Spellemann nominations, Dagny has established herself as one of Norway’s most important pop exports. Musically, she operates in a melodic landscape where indie-pop, synth-pop, electropop, and disco converge – always with a focus on big, infectious choruses. Live, she is known for an energy and presence that elevates even the largest festival stages, having performed at everything from Isle of Wight and Sziget to opening for Sting and Elton John.
