they had a hit machine and threw it in the bin to make this. half the album is silence. nothing else off a major label in '88 sounds remotely like it.

'half the album is silence' sells it short. the silence is the whole point here, one of the few where the space is actually load-bearing instead of a band dressing up having nothing to say. still can't believe a major label signed off on this. people have been chasing it ever since.

wild to think this is the same band that was cutting synthpop singles a few years earlier. the near-silence never once bored me though, 'i believe in you' is the one for me (calling it the banger feels wrong on this record).
