Dark Horse is Nickelback's formula at its most cynical efficiency: Mutt Lange co-writes radio-rock about strip clubs and hangovers with choruses engineered to survive any criticism. "Burn It to the Ground" at least owns its meatheadedness. The craft is genuinely professional; the cynicism is genuinely audible. Both facts made it huge.
