Badlands built a world before the industry could build one around her: Halsey's concept-city of neon alienation runs on "Colors," "New Americana" and a Tumblr-native voice that knew exactly who it was speaking to. The worldbuilding occasionally outpaces the songwriting, but as a generational mood document it holds.
