Recess is Skrillex hedging his empire: the lacerating drops get diluted with dancehall, Chance the Rapper and pop songcraft, and the results feel like a festival headliner reading the room mid-set. "Stranger" hints at depth the album mostly defers. Transitional work from a producer whose best ideas were going elsewhere.
