Stromae's debut is the sound of one man and a laptop discovering a formula: house beats, chanson melancholy, and "Alors on danse" — a song about dancing through debt and divorce that conquered European clubs precisely because of its sadness. Thinner than Racine carrée, but the voice is already unmistakable.
