Róisín Murphy is an Irish singer-songwriter and record producer known for her eclectic music style and her distinctive, husky voice. She was born on July 5, 1973, in Arklow, County Wicklow, Ireland, and was raised in Manchester, England. Róisín Murphy first gained international fame in the 1990s as one half of the UK-Irish trip hop duo Moloko with her then-partner Mark Brydon. The duo was known for their innovative sound that blended electronic music with elements of trip-hop, dance, and funk. Their biggest hit, "Sing It Back," reached international acclaim and has since been covered and remixed by many artists. Following Moloko's amicable split in 2003, Murphy embarked on a solo career, establishing herself as a critically acclaimed solo artist. Her debut album, "Ruby Blue," was released in 2005 to positive reviews. The album's genre-blending style, mixing pop, electronic, and jazz elements, signaled the versatile and experimental path that Murphy's music would take in her solo career.
