About
Dogstar is an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, formed under the most unlikely circumstances: bassist Keanu Reeves and drummer Robert Mailhouse met in a grocery store in 1991, when Reeves noticed Mailhouse’s hockey jersey and asked if he needed a goalie. The friendship turned into jam sessions, and in 1994 guitarist and vocalist Bret Domrose joined and defined the band’s sound. Dogstar played their first concert at Milwaukee Metal Fest in 1992, and in 1995 they opened for David Bowie at the Hollywood Palladium and for Bon Jovi in Australia and New Zealand. The EP Quattro Formaggi (1996) and debut Our Little Visionary (1996, released only in Japan) were followed by Happy Ending (2000), produced by Richie Zito. The band went dormant after a final concert in Japan in 2002. But the three members continued to meet for jam sessions over the years, and when the pandemic slowed everyday life in 2020, eight-hour rehearsal days turned into songwriting again. In July 2022 came the message: “We’re back.” The comeback album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees (2023) reached number 17 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.
