Caroline Elizabeth Polachek (born June 20, 1985) is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She co-founded the indie pop band Chairlift while studying at the University of Colorado. The band emerged from the late-2000s Brooklyn music scene with the sleeper hit "Bruises". After Chairlift disbanded in 2017, Polachek worked on solo projects Ramona Lisa and CEP before embarking on a career under her own name. Her debut studio album, Pang (2019), was released to critical acclaim and featured the popular single "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings". In 2023, she released the critically acclaimed studio album Desire, I Want to Turn Into You. Polachek has collaborated with several notable artists, including Blood Orange, Fischerspooner, Sbtrkt, Christine and the Queens, Charli XCX, Grimes, and the British music collective PC Music. She also wrote material for Beyoncé ("No Angel"). She was born in Manhattan, New York City, to a family of musicians and scholars. She spent her early years in Tokyo, Japan, and Greenwich, Connecticut, where she developed her interest in music and started singing in choir from third grade.
