Shortly after the Another World tour concluded in November 1998, Brian was approached by French film director Alexandre Aja, who had made the 1997 independent film, Over The Rainbow. When he was searching for someone to compose the music for the film, a friend suggested he ask Brian May. At first, Aja was surprised at such a prospect, but two months after he asked Brian, he received a response to meet up and discuss the film. Aja had a rough edit ready to show Brian, and was delighted that he had been affected so deeply by the film. In a similar situation from Highlander, Brian was so enthused about the film that he offered to record the entire soundtrack instead of merely providing the main theme. This would be the first film that Brian would work on in its entirety by himself; there had been some confusion many years ago when a Brian May was credited with soundtrack music on many films like Mad Max and Dr. Giggles, but this was a different Brian May – an Australian composer who passed away in April 1997.
